On the snowy night of December 15th 1973, my father Joseph Jencik drove my mother Pauline to the hospital so that I could be born. Without my mother's knowledge, my dad hid a tape recorder in the car and recorded their conversations. I had heard about this tape's possible existence for many years but as far as I knew it was lost. At some point when I was in my late 30's or so my mother found the tape (a plain blue cassette labeled "baby tape" by father) and gave it to me. I digitized it soon after and I have to say it was a truly bizarre listening experience for me. I made a mental note to use portions from the tape in a future project.

A few years later during the "polar vortex" of 2014, I recorded a guitar improvisation over a drum machine beat. While I was mixing it I realized that it was almost the same length as the "baby tape." I over-dubbed the tape onto the song & it fit almost perfectly. The way some of the talking complimented the music was almost eerie at times. I started cutting up, editing & repeating moments from the tape and added some effects to it. Over the course of a few months, I added some synthesizer & eventually came up with this long track split into two parts. The titles are my parent's childhood nicknames. This "single" is released in honor of my family. It was very cool to make this art project with them.
